About Us
Soroptimist was formed in 1921 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not
permitted to join service organizations. Soroptimist loosely translated from the Latin, means best
for women. Today Soroptimist International has clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the
world. Our club is a part of the Soroptimist International of the Americas, Desert Coast Region,
District I.
Our Club and Members
At Soroptimist International of Artesia-Cerritos (SIAC) we currently have about 46 diverse
members and are still growing strong. We meet twice a month and anyone is welcome to join
our meetings to see what we do.

Women and girls should have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and
live their dreams.
Our Mission
Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the
education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
